    Fjellse turned storage bed?

    I am an amateur DIYer.

My first few projects were built with simple tools mainly because I was terrified to use my circular saw. ..but whatever, they were practice projects just to get my feel wet.

I used a jigsaw to make the cuts for my son's toy box, and to cut the backing for his bed. I even used it to cut a few pieces for the underside of the dining room table.

Anyway, as a result of my lackluster cutting ability, and a few mistakes I should have corrected  immediately,

the profile of the bed annoys me would be better if it weren’t visible.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve begun to compile a list of build projects for the next few months.  And when I saw this pretty, but massive bed, I

thought this might be the solution. Not buying the bed, but adding more storage to to the current one.

I think for the space we have, this may be too big, but something  more along the lines of this one

or even some type of combination of the two would be great. In a kid’s room, the more spaces they have to stuff stuff the better.

    Or maybe not.

This looks a bit like overkill to me…but then again, I guess everyone’s needs are different.

    October is for Organizing!

Well according to the Container Store…or at least that’s the message they’ve put in my inbox.

Anyhow, I think over the next couple of months, I will be getting my house in order for the holidays. People like to visit around the holidays…and it’s nice when the house isn’t in total disarray.

Anyhow, I got some stuff from the container store to help contain all of my stuff.

The little boxes are smaller than I expected, but they will do the trick.

I got them to stash my makeup. Initially, I wanted the clear cube, but it’s big. And expensive. For a plastic box, I’d prefer to spend as little as possible.

That’s all until the next one!

    Ikea Lack Lookalike?

I’ve been in the mood to build lately.  Yesterday I finished an Ikea Lack inspired bookshelf from the plans on the Ana White site.

I have to say, of everything that I’ve made so far, this is my favorite. It was the most fun to build, and I finished it, start to finished, in about 8 hours. And that includes painting and dry time. And I love the color. Its the banana yellow by Benjamin Moore from the Natura range.

I chopped and sanded everything in the garage, then assembled inside because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to move this thing too far on my own.

I used 2 drills to speed up the process; one with a countersink drill bit, and the other with a square head driver.

I used it initially because I was using Kreg screws, but I found that the square head works well with phillips head screws too.

    Assembly was quick.

I drilled my holes as I went along because I attached each shelf  to the sides in the back first,

then checked to make sure everything was level, and that all of my corners were square before attaching the shelves to the front sides.

Then I painted her yellow, and call her my sunshine. It makes me happy just looking at it. It’s a bright, creamy yellow, so it isn’t overpowering. 2 coats of paint, light sanding, and 2 coats of poly.

Right now, I’m debating whether or not I want to build a twin, or if instead I’ll make a table to sit behind my Kivik. I’m leaning toward the latter.
