    wardrobe makeover

I finished my son’s bookshelf/chest of drawers/tv stand thingy that used to belong to my little brother, but doesn’t anymore since he is a college man and has college man furniture quite a while ago, but I never did a proper post.

I love this thing because it’s so sturdy and holds loads of stuff. But this thing is at least 10 years old, and was in need of a little facelift.

So, I cleaned it up, painted it with Foggy Coast 131-3 by Mythic PaintPC122804

and used black chalkboard paint by RustOleum on the cabinet and drawer faces.

I also added a couple of hooks but took one down because it needed to be moved over a bit.

And now it looks like this:

I haven’t decided what to do with the big open square in the back. My brother had a huge TV that occupied the entire space, but I don’t think I want a TV in this room.

I thought about making a memo board, a bit like this one, or even just adding a piece of plywood, and building shelves for more storage…but for now, it shall remain open. If you have any thoughts or suggestions I’d love to hear. What would you do with the space?

Talk to you in the next one!

    A Loft Desk in Miniature

Today I was browsing the Home Decorators site, as I often do, and I came across this desk.

    image

It’s so simple, and that blue is so pretty.

I was looking for a bit of inspiration because my little superhero was in need of a little workstation, and this pretty little thing right here was just what I needed. It looked simple enough to mimic, so I did.

I had some leftover 2x12 pieces from my Lack-a-like project, and paint leftover from his bed and toy box, so other than a little bit of my time, this didn’t cost me anything to build.

I decided to make the top overhang a bit on the sides, and skipped sanding out the dents and dings, and I have to say, I am pleased with it. No, actually, I love it.

I still need to add a couple of corner braces on the underside to give it more stability, but I’ll get to it another day. (If you look closely, you can see one in the Home Decorators pic.)

It isn’t wide enough for the taller books and notebooks, but he uses it mainly for puzzles, games, and coloring. But it’s thin and light enough to move to the center of the room when I need to put a tarp down for crafts and art projects. It’s simple and fits in well with the other pieces in his room. And that blue! Makes me smile every time I see it.

I’m really starting to like the way things are looking in here…well when it’s clean anyway. The blues, greens, greys and blacks give it a really nice feel. It’s my favorite room so far…but that could be because it’s the only one that’s close to completion.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Talk to you in the next one!

    Painting the bookshelf…thingy

Today, I woke up with an insane amount of energy and decided to rearrange the super hero’s bedroom, paint his bookshelf thingy, and build him a little desk. Since I primed it about a week ago,

I managed to do the rearranging, painting and building all before breakfast.

I used Mythic Black Label interior paint in the color foggy coast. It’s a really pretty warm toned grey. I don’t have a Mythic retailer in my area, so I ordered all of my colors online, sight unseen. While I was able to get what I wanted, your results may vary if you go the same route.

The formula is very nice, and I got full opacity in 2 coats. There is almost no odor, and clean up is a breeze.

I still need to go back and touch up the black paint, but I have to say that I looooove this color. I only did one coat of polyacrylic on top, so hopefully it’s enough.

I’m debating whether or not I ought to do something to that giant square cutout, but right now, I am undecided.

I guess that is all for now. Talk to you in the next one!
