    wardrobe makeover

I finished my son’s bookshelf/chest of drawers/tv stand thingy that used to belong to my little brother, but doesn’t anymore since he is a college man and has college man furniture quite a while ago, but I never did a proper post.

I love this thing because it’s so sturdy and holds loads of stuff. But this thing is at least 10 years old, and was in need of a little facelift.

So, I cleaned it up, painted it with Foggy Coast 131-3 by Mythic PaintPC122804

and used black chalkboard paint by RustOleum on the cabinet and drawer faces.

I also added a couple of hooks but took one down because it needed to be moved over a bit.

And now it looks like this:

I haven’t decided what to do with the big open square in the back. My brother had a huge TV that occupied the entire space, but I don’t think I want a TV in this room.

I thought about making a memo board, a bit like this one, or even just adding a piece of plywood, and building shelves for more storage…but for now, it shall remain open. If you have any thoughts or suggestions I’d love to hear. What would you do with the space?

    Fjellse turned storage bed?

    I am an amateur DIYer.

My first few projects were built with simple tools mainly because I was terrified to use my circular saw. ..but whatever, they were practice projects just to get my feel wet.

I used a jigsaw to make the cuts for my son's toy box, and to cut the backing for his bed. I even used it to cut a few pieces for the underside of the dining room table.

Anyway, as a result of my lackluster cutting ability, and a few mistakes I should have corrected  immediately,

the profile of the bed annoys me would be better if it weren’t visible.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve begun to compile a list of build projects for the next few months.  And when I saw this pretty, but massive bed, I

thought this might be the solution. Not buying the bed, but adding more storage to to the current one.

I think for the space we have, this may be too big, but something  more along the lines of this one

    image

or even some type of combination of the two would be great. In a kid’s room, the more spaces they have to stuff stuff the better.

    Or maybe not.

This looks a bit like overkill to me…but then again, I guess everyone’s needs are different.

    The Finishing Touches

With the addition of the little Target table, and a few little accent pieces, this room will be DONE!!

I’ve been doing a little bit of online window shopping and there are a few things that have seriously caught my eye.

    image

I really like the hopscotch rug from  CB2. At $199.00 it’s about what I’d expect to pay for a nicer rug, and this one is so cute. image

I love the colors in this abacus. I think it would be really nice over his desk.   image

I didn’t realize how similarly colored the one I built is to the French Blue Shelfpalooza from the Land od Nod. I may try my had at building my own version, but if I do feel a bit lazy, this is always an option.

Won't You Come and Read With Me bookends from the land of Nod $39.00.

    image

Stick With Me Kid Magnet Bar  from the Land of Nod. They come in 7 different colors and are $14.95 each.

    image

Straight and Narrow Book Ledge are very cute, and $20.00 from the Land of Nod, but can be free with a little bit of time, and some leftover wood and paint that I have in my garage.

    image

Mythic Paint in Dilly Dally  from the Land of Nod collection. I don’t know about this particular color, but I am thinking about a lighter, yellowed, greyed, almost muddy shade of green for the walls.

From the picture it looks like it fits that description, even though it does seem to be a bit too bright.

Magnificent Magnetic Magazine Pocket $24.95 from the Land of Nod.

Bin There Done That Book Bin $59.00 from the Land of Nod…but this is another project that looks simple enough to take on myself.

And yes, I really do have a soft spot for the Land of Nod. I think they make really beautiful pieces for children that can, for the most part, grow with children, and can be reused and passed on (unlike this table). Which, I think for their prices, is important for a lot of people.

My hesitation with purchasing online from them basically comes from an inability to actually go into a store and look at things that I’m interested in, and just kinda “kick the tires” ya know?

So the moment, I am content to stick with my online window shopping.

That is all for now, and I will talk to you in the next one!
