    Little Closet of Horrors

First, I want to start by saying that I am not a messy person. Chaos, clutter and disorganization drive me crazy. I like order, and the ability to locate things when I want them.

However, my current closet situation doesn’t do a great job of accommodating all of my things efficiently. Actually, not many things in this house do yet…

I warn you, what lies behind this narrow door may frighten you.

And even when I manage to get it looking like this (minus the boxes of Christmas gifts that have to remain out of sight and out of reach):

it doesn’t stay that way for long. Not because it’s stuffed, almost to capacity, but because I have to move things in order to get to other things, and I don’t always have time to put things back once I’ve reached whatever I was trying to get in the first place.

Plus, I’m short. It’s impossible for me to reach things above the highest clothes rack without a step ladder…and whenever I pull out the ladder, I’m joined by a small child who needs to climb the “mountain” at that very moment.

I really need a professional better solution. I’m adding new closet organization to my Christmas List. Yup.

    That is all.

    Foyer Fun

I’ve been testing out different pieces of furniture out in my entry way. I started with my bedroom nightstand, then the traveling Lack-a-like, I even tested out my ugly warped wood mishap there.

Then proceeded to decorate it, just to see if I should attempt to make it less of a failure…

But, I really just prefer the way my nightstand looks there.

It’s still a work in progress, but at least now I’m on the right track.

Talk to you in the next one!

    My Dining Chair Dilemma

I only have 2 dining room chairs at the moment. I’ve been meaning to get 2  or 4 more, I just haven’t decided on what they should look like.

I like the idea of mismatched chairs. When they’re done right, and the style and scale are balanced and blend well with all of the other elements in the room, I think mismatched chairs are beautiful.

A quick Google search for “mismatched dining room chairs” presented me with a slew of beautifully decorated eclectic rooms.

The one below from allthingsthrifty.com, although not quite my style, is absolutely adorable.image

The colors are different, but it’s well balanced, and cohesive, and it still looks like they belong together.

This one for HGTV.com I also think is done very well.  image

The chairs are different, but the colors are the same, and they have an airiness that contrasts nicely with the darkness of the floor, window treatments and wall color.

The problem I have with mismatched chairs is that, it’s easy for it too look odd, unbalanced, and thrown together. Sometimes, it just doesn’t look cohesive and makes the room look too busy.

I don’t have a dedicated room for dining.

My little area needs to multitask, and already consists of other pieces of furniture that don’t quite match, so I have to be careful about going overboard.

I’ve been considering acrylic chairs. I like the way they almost disappear when they aren’t in use. My favorite is the Vapor Chair from CB2. I think its shape would compliment my current chairs…but I am still undecided.

I have to make a decision soon because my family will be visiting for Christmas and into the new year, and 2 chairs just won’t cut it.

Off to ponder…what do you think I should do?

    Later!
