    Fjellse turned storage bed?

    I am an amateur DIYer.

My first few projects were built with simple tools mainly because I was terrified to use my circular saw. ..but whatever, they were practice projects just to get my feel wet.

I used a jigsaw to make the cuts for my son's toy box, and to cut the backing for his bed. I even used it to cut a few pieces for the underside of the dining room table.

Anyway, as a result of my lackluster cutting ability, and a few mistakes I should have corrected  immediately,

the profile of the bed annoys me would be better if it weren’t visible.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve begun to compile a list of build projects for the next few months.  And when I saw this pretty, but massive bed, I

thought this might be the solution. Not buying the bed, but adding more storage to to the current one.

I think for the space we have, this may be too big, but something  more along the lines of this one

or even some type of combination of the two would be great. In a kid’s room, the more spaces they have to stuff stuff the better.

    Or maybe not.

This looks a bit like overkill to me…but then again, I guess everyone’s needs are different.

    Black Friday Goodness

I managed to score some major Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals…I didn’t actually go to any stores, but the online deals were pretty good. I got all of my Christmas shopping done. I also snagged a few goodies for my house.

I’ve been trying to get things in order for my holiday visitors, so room by room I’ve been trying to check things off my to-do lists.

I’ve started to address my bedroom issues, and today, I begin with the space beside my massive dresser.

I managed to grab a little table from Target that was originally over $60, but was reduced to $34, and then I had 20% off and a gift card. It isn’t on the website anymore, but it’s a cute, sturdy little side table.

I also got a slipper chair. Originally priced $179.99 and reduced to $129.99, and  I had 20% off. It’s still available as of today, and is still listed at the reduced price.

It came in 2 parts in 2 boxes.

All of the pieces come attached to the bottom of the seat of the chair that is hidden behind a cover (attached by Velcro along the sides.)

Assembly was quick and easy. Well for the legs anyway. I ended up having to use my own self tapping screws to attach the back of the chair to the seat because the holes weren’t aligned properly, and I didn’t feel like drilling new ones.

It’s a sturdy little chair and I love the print. It reminds me of a modern toile. I was expecting it to be white, but it’s more of a cream color…but it’s fine.

I also got a great deal on window panels from West Elm. They were more grey than I was expecting, but the actually compliment my comforter better than I had hoped.

I’m beginning to like the way my room is looking. Eventually I’ll choose paint colors for the house, but that’ll be last. Paint is powerful and I want to make sure I get it right.

I want to add shelves and artwork above the chair…but that isn’t at the top of my to-do list in this room. I still need a vanity and a bedside table.

That’s all for now. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

    Adventures in Couponing: Take 1

Today I did went on my first real couponing excursion. It was terrifying!

I can spend $400 easy in one shopping trip. I never really go in with a plan, and with my little boy, we always end up leaving the store with much more than I anticipated. I do always have a coupon or 2, but I never really made an effort to shop the sales, or with any sort of a plan, so my savings never really amassed to much.

Today however, was very much planned. I bought a Sunday paper 2 weeks ago, and another one last Sunday, and I plan to grab another tomorrow. Maybe I’ll subscribe and pick up 2 at a time, but for now, I just want to get my feet wet, and do some practicing.

I think I did pretty well for my first trip. I only got basics that needed restocking. I didn’t get everything on my list, and forgot to get a rain check for a few things that were out of stock, but overall, I’m content.

Today I only went to the grocery store. New sales start tomorrow, so I’m taking inventory to determine what we need from Target, CVS and Walgreens.

I’ve never been to CVS before and I’ve never purchased anything from Walgreens other than candy so I have to get their rewards card, and see how this goes. I hear CVS is the place to clean up, especially with their extra bucks…I’m totally up for getting things for free.

I’m feeling pretty good though. I spent $163.92 and saved a total of $54.29. It was my first time, so I’d call that a success. Plus the little catalina spit out 2 more coupons for my enjoyment next time.

Do you coupon? If so, do you have any tips for a noobie? I'd love to hear from you!
