Hi, I'm Elle

    Today I Found A Mirror

This is where I want my desk/vanity to go.

    P9081783

For now, the space is occupied by my yoga equipment, art I haven’t decided whether or not I want to hang, canvases that I have yet to paint, a giant basket full of extra cords, plugs, hot tools for my hair, a netbook, old cameras, phones, and other random tech stuff that doesn’t have a home; and a basket full of Vera Bradley travel bags, pillows and extra bed linens.

But eventually this will be where I get ready in the morning. My goal is to have all of the furniture that I add to this room keep all of my clutter out of sight. The dressing table that I want to go here will house all of my makeup and hair tools. My current solutionP9101805

is more than a little bit frustrating…I can’t ever find what I want when I want it. I went to Ross today actually looking for a duvet cover, but I left a $24 mirror instead.

It’s 27 by 34 inches, and the same espresso color as my bedroom set.

I picked this set up from Target a while back for a few dollars, and planned on using for my hallway project, but decided to use regular hammer and nails, but these came in handy for this. The mirror isn’t all that heavy, but I used the 50 pound hangers for the job.

It actually turned out to be the perfect size. I like it.

Especially for twenty four bucks! This chick’s a happy camper…

That is all for now. Talk to you in the next one!

    A Little Bit Of Homesickness

I hate the summer. It is, hands down my LEAST favorite season. I’m not sure if it’s because in Southern California, all of the seasons are pretty much the same, or what, but I hate the heat. I hate the dryness. I hate the humidity. I hate the blazing sun. I hate all of the bugs.

Anyway, before I get lost in an anti-summer rant, I have to say that that lately I’ve been missing home. Usually around this time of year, we’d be planning a trip to the LA County Fair, so that we can waste money trying to win stuffed animals we don’t have room for, or eating unhealthy amounts of food that is detrimental to our health.

I am bummed that I won’t be able to visit this year. I miss going to the fair with my mom. I miss my mom…and my best friend.

I miss the way you can see the smog sitting on top of the city. I find it fascinating…it’s there, even on a clear day. And if you’ve ever flown  into or out of LAX, as you ascend or descend, you pass through it just before you get to the clouds or hit the ground.

I miss wide lanes on the freeway. Where I live now, 2 lane highways are frustratingly common, and people drive so slowly…I really miss 75 MPH speed limits.

I miss the LA Zoo. It isn’t the best I’ve been to, but you get an awesome workout walking all those hills, and taking the detours all around the construction.

I miss my random trips to Kidspace Children’s Museum with my little boy.

I miss the Aquarium of the Pacific. When it isn’t crowded, it’s a really pleasant place to be.

And I miss Disneyland. I usually visit at least twice a year because I love the way the park is decorated for Christmas, and for Halloween. Makes for great photos.

I’m planning a surprise trip back home soon though…should be tons of fun, and maybe I’ll have enough time to visit some of the places I miss most.

I guess that’s enough of my rambling. Talk to you in the next one!

    The Finishing Touches

With the addition of the little Target table, and a few little accent pieces, this room will be DONE!!

I’ve been doing a little bit of online window shopping and there are a few things that have seriously caught my eye.

    image

I really like the hopscotch rug from  CB2. At $199.00 it’s about what I’d expect to pay for a nicer rug, and this one is so cute. image

I love the colors in this abacus. I think it would be really nice over his desk.   image

I didn’t realize how similarly colored the one I built is to the French Blue Shelfpalooza from the Land od Nod. I may try my had at building my own version, but if I do feel a bit lazy, this is always an option.

Won't You Come and Read With Me bookends from the land of Nod $39.00.

    image

Stick With Me Kid Magnet Bar  from the Land of Nod. They come in 7 different colors and are $14.95 each.

    image

Straight and Narrow Book Ledge are very cute, and $20.00 from the Land of Nod, but can be free with a little bit of time, and some leftover wood and paint that I have in my garage.

    image

Mythic Paint in Dilly Dally  from the Land of Nod collection. I don’t know about this particular color, but I am thinking about a lighter, yellowed, greyed, almost muddy shade of green for the walls.

    image

From the picture it looks like it fits that description, even though it does seem to be a bit too bright.

Magnificent Magnetic Magazine Pocket $24.95 from the Land of Nod.

    image

Bin There Done That Book Bin $59.00 from the Land of Nod…but this is another project that looks simple enough to take on myself.

And yes, I really do have a soft spot for the Land of Nod. I think they make really beautiful pieces for children that can, for the most part, grow with children, and can be reused and passed on (unlike this table). Which, I think for their prices, is important for a lot of people.

My hesitation with purchasing online from them basically comes from an inability to actually go into a store and look at things that I’m interested in, and just kinda “kick the tires” ya know?

So the moment, I am content to stick with my online window shopping.

That is all for now, and I will talk to you in the next one!
