    Toy Box: Finally Done!

I finally finished the toy box for the super hero’s bedroom. Honestly, under normal circumstances, it can be done in a day. In a few hours, really…But that isn’t the point. The point is, I finished, and I am fairly pleased with the way that it turned out.

These pictures were taken after the first coat of the Mythic Paint in Seaside Reflections. Its the same color that I used on the frame of the super hero’s bed.

I think I would rather spend the money to buy the ones from the Land of Nod than build another one. Otherwise, I would want to invest in a rotary tool so that I can make mine prettier.

Considering that this was my first build, and I did learn quite a few things from it, I’m sure that if I do decide to build another one, it will no doubt be much better.

I planned for this to be placed in the closet, and maybe eventually it will end up there, but for now, it sits beside the bed. Everything in this picture will be moved soon though. It is a tiny room, but this layout really bothers me. I hate the bed in front of the window.

Big, deep sigh. Slowly but surely, things are beginning to come together though.

Talk to you in the next one!

    Ikea Fjellse Hacked!

So, I finally hacked the bed. Well, almost. I’m considering adding nail head trim around the front, then possibly framing it, and then it’ll be finished. It isn’t perfect, but I’m happy with the way it turned out. One more project crossed off my ever growing to-do list.

It wasn’t a long process, but I spread it out over 2 days. I think it took a total of 4 hours, and that includes all of the cutting, painting and fiddling with my staple gun. There are a few tutorials online, so I’ll just share my process, and show what I would have done differently.

    What I used:

    • screwdriver
    • spray glue
    • wood glue
    • foam
    • batting
    • mending plates
    • furring strips
    • paint
    • primer
    • clamps (since I was working upright)

    • OSB (I cut my piece with a jigsaw…it was far from perfect, and really didn’t make a difference)

The top measured up almost perfectly, in the picture below, the OSB isn’t attached, just leaning against the back.I knew that the foam and batting would be forgiving so I didn’t worry about making the straightest lines in the world.

If I were to do it again, this is the part I would do differently.

I should have corrected this immediately, but I decided to push on, and see how it developed. It doesn’t look terrible, but the sides aren’t an even thickness from the top to the bottom.

I do love the paint color though, and it looks even better after the second coat.

This room is starting to come together, and I have to say that I’m very pleased with the progress.

    Until the next time,

    signing off.

    A Box from Mythic Paint

I placed an order online for the paint I would need to spruce up the super hero’s bedroom from Mythic about a week ago, and today, it arrived.

It was a pretty big box for such a small amount of product…but it was full of packing peanuts and cardboard.

Everything was securely packaged though, and arrived in perfect condition.

I ended up ordering 3 colors. 1 quart of the grey, one quart of the blue, and a sample size of the green. I didn’t feel the need to purchase a whole gallon of any color because I don’t plan on painting tons and tons of furniture.

I intended to recycle the packing peanuts, but…

he got to them before I could move them, and they were smashed and broken within minutes, so I just swept them up, and threw them away. If I can find a retailer close to me, I’ll go that route next time. Less waste. Anyhow, I’m excited to see how these apply.

That review will be coming up soon.

    Until next time,
