    Zoey the Destroyer

    This is Zoey.

    P2160863

I adopted her not too long ago from the Humane Society back befoe I moved. They thought she was a Pomeranian, so that’s what I’ll go with even though she’s about 12 pounds and tall for the breed. She’s about 2 years old.

Technically, Zoey is my second dog. My first dog was a Christmas gift many years ago, but she was stolen. Someone actually came into our yard and took her while I was at school, and my parents were at work.

Unlike my first dog though (a chow chow mix who was also adopted from the same Humane Society), Miss Zoey lives indoors, and having her has been an interesting learning experience.

Don’t let her pretty face and diminutive size fool you, this little dog is destructive. She eats just about any and everything within her reach, and even manages to get to things out of her reach. She can pull clothes out of my rather tall hamper, and seems to have a strange obsession with dirty socks.  I’ve lost more socks to this dog in a few weeks than I ever have with sock stealing washing machines. She also likes to chew up flip flops. And my son’s shoes. And she got to one of my favorite sweaters.

She even destroyed this Kong. It didn’t last more than a few weeks before she tore it in half. But then I realized I bought the one that is meant for puppies. So I got her the black one for extreme chewers. Hopefully that one will survive her. I don’t even buy her plush toys, or anything with fur or fuzz…

But at the end of the day, destruction aside, I love my little dog. Until next time,

    Pack.Wait for movers.Travel.Wait for movers.Unpack.

That is the process for moving.

I recently moved across the country with my 3 year old, and our dog Zoey. It was a huge deal for me because I’ve never really lived on my own before. I mean, I roughed it in a college dorm/apartment for one semester. But aside from that, I have spent the majority of my life in my mommy’s house, in my lovely bedroom since I was about 6 years old.

Almost 2 decades later, I find myself in a new bedroom, living alone, in a new house, in a new city, and in a new state. And truth be told, I LOVE IT! 1,220 square feet of space that’s all mine. Not too much to manage, but just enough space to be comfortable in.

Now the first two weeks were interesting to say the least. No phone, no internet, no cable, no furniture. With just my cell phone, the luggage we traveled with, and things within said luggage  most of my days have been spent running errands, making grown up phone calls, creating long lists of necessities, trips to Target and Toys R’ Us to get necessities, and cleaning.

Luckily the time went by quickly and soon we went from this:

It’s interesting how much faster unpacking is to packing…not that I’m nearly finished, but still. It’s a lot easier to pull and pour stuff out than it is to pack things away.

I’m super excited to get to the decorating!

Until next time, have a wonderful rest of the day!

    the Boy’s Room: Take 1.

Long before I started packing for the big move, I had planned out the décor for the entire house.

I knew what color walls would be painted, what furniture I wanted and needed to buy, and where I wanted said furniture to be placed. And this I decided for a house that I wouldn't actually see in person until after I had actually moved across the country, on the day I arrived in a new city, in a new state.

Needless to say, there was a bit of an issue once I actually got here, and stood in the spaces I had to work with. Even with the power of Google maps, pictures, and virtual tours, they only show so much.

And I learned that it’s difficult to tell how spaces will be used until after they’ve been lived in for a while.

So since I’ve been here for a little while, and learning the way that it lights up during the day, and in which rooms I live execute tasks, I have completely revamped my décor scheme.

The first room up for a makeover is my son's room. Not so much because the space isn’t what I was expecting (because actually, out of all of the rooms, that was the one room that only needed minor tweaks), but because 3 year old boys are temperamental.

Initially, he insisted on having a Buzz Lightyear themed "big-boy" room. But the thing about themed bedrooms is that children’s tastes change so quickly.

I do want to let him have a say in the way that his space looks, but not so much say that it looks ridiculous. I really like pretty, and even though he is a boy, I do think it’s OK to make his room look pretty.

I came up with this little mood board:

    image

Fabrics from Serena and Lily, drapes, bed, nightstand, rug, and storage from the Land of Nod; Mythic paint, and accessories from Ikea.

In addition to that, we already have two  Mammut chairs from Ikea, and a navy dresser, bookshelf, TV console thing we inherited from my brother. I figured with all of that, a few more little accessories, and a some framed Buzz pics, I could create a cute and fun place for him to play and grow. And when he eventually got over Mr. Lightyear, it would still be nice.

But that was before he discovered comic books. At the moment, he is completely taken with anything and everything with a Marvel comic character…well Marvel heroes and Batman. My 3 year old wants black and grey (which makes me VERY happy). So I’m back to the drawing board to somehow incorporate Iron Man, War Machine, Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Capitan America, Wolverine, and so on…well them and Batman, and create a scheme that is easily changeable, and will last a a few years. I’m off to go ponder…

    That’s all until next time.
